How Can You Help?

The Pitt County Dropout Prevention Campaign is an effort by Pitt County Schools (PCS) to partner with the community at large to   develop workable solutions that prepare our youth for college, work, and life...starting with a high school  diploma.

Every member of our community can help to address the dropout crisis in Pitt County and throughout the   nation:
  • Encourage all children you come in contact with to attend school regularly and to do their very best.  Let them know about the importance of an education.
  • Volunteer your time at a local school.
  • Help raise awareness of the dropout crisis in your neighborhood and enlist the help of others.
  • Contribute funds to the Pitt County Dropout Prevention Campaign by sponsoring a student or students in two of our highly successful dropout prevention programs.
    • Project Equal - Students in grades 6-12 spent time in community/school service in lieu of out-of-school suspension for Category I and II violations. The suspension rate in PCS was reduced by 32.74% in 2010-11 from the 2009-10 rate. More than 27,000 hours of instruction were saved as a result.
    • Twilight Academy - High school students were able to re-take courses they had failed in an after-school program using EdOptions software for credit recovery and staffed with PCS teachers. As a result, 141 students graduated in the 2010-11 school year due to Twilight. In addition, since the beginning of the program in the spring of 2010, 327 credits have been issued to students.
Campaign Contributions

In the 2009-10 school year, the number of students dropping out of school was reduced by 25.1% from the previous year. The two successful grant funded programs mentioned above helped contribute to this reduction. Your support in sponsoring a student(s) for one of these programs during the 2011-12 school year would be greatly appreciated.

Together, we can help ensure that all PCS students Finish the Race!
