Smith Appointed New Principal of Belvoir Elementary
July 2, 2012 - Kevin Smith has been named as the new principal of Belvoir Elementary School replacing Shannon Wainright who was recently appointed to fill the position of Instructional Compliance Coordinator for Pitt County Schools.
“I am looking forward to returning to Belvoir Elementary School,” Smith said. “I really enjoyed the family environment during my two years there as assistant principal.”
Smith began his career with Pitt County Schools in the fall of 2000 when he joined the faculty at D. H. Conley High School as a Social Studies teacher. In the fall of 2005, he was appointed assistant principal at Elmhurst Elementary School where he served until the 2008-09 school year when he assumed that same role at Belvoir Elementary. Smith has been the principal of Stokes Elementary School for the past two years.
“I am proud of our many accomplishments at Stokes,” Smith explained. “I really appreciated the culture of academic excellence that was prevalent amongst the staff, students, parents and community.”
Smith earned his Bachelor of Science in History in 2000, Masters in School Administration in 2005 and Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Administration in 2011 from East Carolina University.
Smith and his wife Shannon, have two sons. His wife is also an educator, teaching fourth grade at Ayden Elementary School.
