Tyson Named New Principal of Stokes School

July 2, 2012 - Lesley Tyson has been named the new principal of Stokes School, replacing Kevin Smith who was recently appointed as the new principal at Belvoir Elementary School.   

 
“I am looking forward to the opportunity of returning to Stokes School.  Having completed my internship there, I know first-hand what a supportive and great staff and community I will be working with.  It will be a privilege to return to the Stokes community,” Tyson said. 
 
Tyson began her career as an English teacher at Farmville Central High School where she worked from 2003-07.  As a part of her NC Principal Fellowship, she served as an administrative intern at Stokes during the 2008-09 school year.  She was then appointed as the assistant principal at Wahl-Coates Elementary School where she served since 2009.

 

Tyson earned her Bachelor of Science in English Education in 2003 from East Carolina University.  She then went on to earn her Master’s in Educational Leadership in 2009 from the university.

 
Tyson is married to John Tyson who is a native of Pitt County; he works at Select Bank & Trust. Together, they have one daughter, Kaylen.
