July 10, 2012 - Maurice Harris, assistant principal at North Pitt High School, has been named the new principal of Wellcome Middle School. He will replace Sandra Morris who was recently appointed the new Director of Federal Programs for Pitt County Schools.

“It has been more than a pleasure serving as the Assistant Principal at North Pitt High School for 7 years,” Harris commented.  “It has been truly a training ground in which I have grown attached; a bond that can never be broken.”

After successfully completing the fellowship, he graduated in 2006 from East Carolina with his Master’s Degree in School Administration and was appointed the new assistant principal at North Pitt.

“I am excited about this opportunity to transition back to the middle school and serve in the best interest of students to assure their future success,” he added.   “I look forward to working with the students, parents, and staff of Wellcome Middle School and the continual support from this community.”

Professionally, Harris is a member of the NC Principal and Assistant Principals’ Association and has served as a member of the district’s Graduation Task Force. He was also honored by his peers in 2010, 2011 and 2012 with nominations for the district’s Assistant Principal of the Year award.
