January 26, 2012 - District Honors National Board Certified Teachers

January 26, 2012 - Pitt County Schools (PCS) held the eleventh annual Pinning Ceremony for National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) on Jan. 25 at South Central High School.  Twenty-nine PCS teachers achieved their certification in 2011.  In addition, another 11 teachers renewed their certification.  Overall, Pitt County Schools has 275 teachers currently working in the district that have achieved this honor.

National Board Certification is a voluntary assessment program designed to recognize and retain accomplished teachers- and make them better.  While state licensing systems set basic requirements to teach in each state, NBCTs have successfully demonstrated advanced teaching knowledge, skills and practices.  Certification is achieved through a rigorous, performance-based assessment that typically takes three years to complete.

During the ceremony, each newly certified teacher received a plaque and a specially designed pin to commemorate their status as a NBCT.  Teachers who renewed their certification received a special certificate.
