March 28, 2012 - G.R. Whitfield School’s Battle of the Books team won the regional competition on March 16th for the third consecutive year in a row.
The Battle of the Books team competed against six other teams in the competition. The team is lead by coaches Katherine Toriello and Jennifer Martin. Team members include Rand Chandler, Haley Dixon, Haylee Dixon, Lindsey Gautier, Hannah Martin, William Bryce McKeel, and Hannah Rostar.
“This is my first year with the team, so it just goes to show it's really about the team and how much work they put into it. They all work really hard. I'm proud of every one of them,” Toriello said.
The team will now go on to compete at the state competition on May 9th. In the meantime, all seven team members will continue to practice four days a week as a team and also at home. Toriello contributes parental support as one of the main reasons the team does so well. “We have great parent involvement,” she said.
