SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH ANNOUNCEMENT
Pitt County Schools is celebrating School Library Month throughout the month of April. School librarians will be hosting a variety of activities to highlight the unique and essential role that strong school library programs play in the overall educational program. School library media coordinators
- work to ensure that students and staff are effective users of information and emerging technologies
- Provide resources and activities to encourage and support content-area reading, independent reading, and lifelong learning for every student
- contribute to the individual growth of all students, fostering equity of access to vital resources
The 2018 theme is Everyone Belongs @ your School Library. Dav Pilkey, author of hugely popular series such as Dogman and Captain Underpants, is the national spokesperson this year. In this video endorsement Mr. Pilkey describes how he benefited from the influence of libraries during his formative years.
As part of the celebration all schools in the district will be participating in a Drop Everything And Read Day on April 12th. Make sure to check out this Drop Everything and Read flyer. School libraries will also be featured throughout the month on PCS social media sites.
