CHILD FIND

What is Project Child Find?

Child Find is a process through the Exceptional Children Division of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to identify, locate, and evaluate children with disabilities who may need special education or related services. This includes children ages 3-21 who:

  • Attend public or private schools
  • Are homeschooled
  • Are homeless or wards of the state

Project Child Find is an initiative to inform parents and guardians about services available through:

  • Their local school system
  • State and community agencies

These services may include:

  • Evaluations
  • Development of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Referrals to outside agencies as determined by the IEP team

Child Find Posters and Flyers are distributed to:

  • PSU School Systems and Central Offices
  • Charter Schools
  • State-Operated Programs
  • Non-Public Schools

Help us reach more families by sharing this information in your local communities!
