Speech Therapy

Core Mission

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) support students in developing and applying their communication skills to succeed in the educational setting. They provide individualized evaluations and goals tailored to each student's needs.

Overview

Pitt County Schools currently have 34 SLPs serving students Pre-K–12+.
SLPs are case managers and related service providers who advocate for students, support teachers, and participate on district teams (MTSS, Autism Support, Unique Mealtime, Assistive Technology).
SLPs assist with mass and MTSS hearing screenings and provide screening support when referrals are made.

Speech sounds (articulation/phonology)
Language comprehension and expressive language
Stuttering (fluency)
Social communication and pragmatic language
Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)

Why This Matters?

Effective communication skills are fundamental to classroom learning, social participation, and long-term success. SLPs help remove communication barriers, in order for students to fully engage in school and in their future opportunities.
