Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) is an international math competition. The goals of Math Olympiad are:

    • To stimulate enthusiasm and a love for Mathematics
    • To introduce important Mathematical concepts
    • To teach major strategies for problem solving
    • To develop Mathematical flexibility in solving problems
    • To strengthen Mathematical intuition
    • To foster Mathematical creativity and ingenuity
    • To provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting challenges

This math enrichment opportunity is offered to fourth and fifth graders at W. H. Robinson who demonstrate  advanced mathematical s kills. Five Olympiads are held in Mrs. Howard's classroom at monthly intervals during the school year beginning in November.  Each contest presents five problems to solve in a limited amount of time, and a student receives one point for each correct answer. Thus, a student can receive a maximum of twenty-five points.  Practice sessions are held once a week, mostly during students’ lunch time.
