Ridgewood Elementary School has been honored as a NATIONAL of Character!
National Schools of Character are selected by Character.org in collaboration with state sponsors for having reached a standard of excellence within the nation, in the area of Character Development.
Our Core Values: Ridgewood Sharks are Responsible, Respectful, and Safe Leaders.
Ridgewood Elementary believes in educating the whole child. We believe that our students are leaders, and recognize that they are the future of our community and world. We work to equip them with the skills and knowledge to not only be strong academically, but also socially and emotionally. The adults in our school embrace their critical roles of models for our students, and work together with families and our community to positively shape the social, emotional, and character development of the children entrusted to them each day. Our goal is for students in our building to feel safe, respected, and connected to others, allowing them to thrive academically and socially, and be motivated to give back to our community.
At Ridgewood Elementary, Character Education is taught with a focus on leadership, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, and in conjunction with PBIS. Students participate in Service Learning opportunities by being involved in their school as leaders. They serve in leadership capacities including: Welcoming & Events, Recycling, Flag Team, Office Assistants, Media Assistants, PBIS Kids, Buddy Bag Helpers, Art/Music/PE Assistants, Buddy Readers, and Pledge Announcers. Our k-2 classes and 3-5 classes are matched as "Buddy Classes" to offer support, and leadership to younger students. Some of our students who have higher needs, are matched with a "Shark Buddy" who helps to give them a trusting adult to offer support throughout the year.
The Seven Habits:
1. Be Proactive
2. Begin With the End in Mind
3. Put First Things First
4. Think Win-Win
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
7. Sharpen the Saw
