*Covid-19 clusters are defined as 5 inter-related cases. For a complete definition and official reporting of NC COVID-19 clusters in schools, click here. Clusters will remain on that database until the cluster is considered over or inactive. According to this NCDHHS resource, "A cluster is considered over if there is not evidence of continued transmission within the setting. This is measured as 28 days after the latest date of onset in a symptomatic person or the latest date of specimen collection in an asymptomatic person, whichever is later." We report NEW clusters, if applicable, each week here on the weekly dashboard.

On-Campus Cases by School
LIVE, Real Time Dashboard
(Includes BOTH On-Campus and Off-Campus Active Cases)
Definitions and Notifications
On-Campus Case: An individual who tested positive, reported it to PCS, and was on a school campus within 48 hours of testing positive or developing symptoms before testing positive. On-campus cases indicate a risk of transmission, yet transmission is not likely as masking protocols are in place at all schools.
Off-Campus Case: An individual who tested positive and reported it to PCS but was not on a school campus within 48 hours of testing positive or developing symptoms before testing positive. An off-campus case has no risk of school-transmission.
Quarantine: Individuals are quarantined from school/work if they have been in close contact with an individual within 48 hours of testing positive for COVID-19 or becoming symptomatic before testing positive for COVID-19 AND are unmasked or a mask has not been worn properly or consistently during exposure.
Close Contact: Close contact is defined as within 6 ft. for 15 minutes (cumulative) or more of an individual who tests positive for COVID-19.
Real Time Data: The data that is populated directly from our student and staff data tracking, completed by our school COVID contacts, our school nurses, and school administration throughout each day. Real-time data on our LIVE dashboard is available at any time and includes all active cases and related quarantines.
Active Case: An individual currently remaining off campus who is either COVID-19 positive OR quarantined due to exposure to someone who is COVID-19 positive. Cases are inactive when the individual has been cleared or has recovered.
Weekly Summary Data: Weekly total data of district on-campus cases only. Summaries are provided each Friday by 5pm and is in addition to direct notifications.
Direct Notification: Notifications are made directly to individuals who must quarantine because they have been in close contact with an individual who tests positive for COVID-19.
Note: As of 8/26/21, and after advisement from our Pitt County Health Department, whole school calls of positive cases on campuses will not necessarily be made unless it is most efficient for schools to do so. (Middle and high schools may still make whole school calls due to students attending multiple classes or being in multiple places in the school.)
As of 9/24/21, Pitt County Schools will no longer be making general school or class calls of notification of a case of COVID-19 if there is no need to quarantine. Individuals who are required to quarantine due to close contact exposure will be contacted through individual calls/notifications. We have also added the above weekly dashboard of on-campus cases by school as an extra notification.
