It is the desire of the Administration and the Pitt County Board of Education to conduct the 2010 Student Reassignment process in an environment that is as transparent, inclusive and interactive as possible. To that end, this webpage will be used to provide background information, current information, Board meeting dates, Board decisions, and to the degree possible, will display the data being presented to the Board by which those decisions will be made.

Recognizing that ultimately the decision for student assignment rests completely with the Pitt County Board of Education, the Board recognizes and believes that community involvement and informed citizenry input is not only desirable, but necessary to a sound process.

It will be the intent of Pitt County Schools to utilize this webpage as a means by which interested community citizens may access information that the Board of Education will use to analyze issues, explore scenarios, discuss boundary alternatives (and the resulting impact/concerns/questions for those alternatives),
and make decisions.   The decisions made in November of this year will impact student assignments for the 2011-2012 school year.

In addition to viewing printed information, this webpage will also serve as a mechanism through which parents and citizens may submit comments and access answers to frequently asked questions.

Beginning in the summer, a series of sessions with parents and community residents will be held to gather input on the proposed reassignment options.  Pitt County Schools’ staff members will facilitate these workshops providing details and answering questions.  Feedback from workshop participants will be collected and utilized by the Board.  Other workshops will be held with designated groups (representatives from the Greenville Parents Association and the Pitt County Coalition for Educating Black Children).  These workshops will be open for members of the public to attend and observe.  Additionally, opportunities for general public comment at regular Board meetings and a public hearing will be provided.  Dates and times for these opportunities will be posted.
