Ayden-Grifton High School Receives Grant to Support Agricultural Education
The Ayden-Grifton FFA Chapter is growing opportunities for students to learn agriculture beyond the classroom thanks to an $11,495 grant from the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission.
The grant is part of $300,000 awarded this year to the North Carolina FFA to strengthen middle and high school agricultural education programs across the state. Twenty-three agricultural education programs and FFA chapters were selected to receive funding, marking the eighth time North Carolina Agricultural Education has received support through the commission. The grants have now totaled nearly $2 million.
At Ayden-Grifton High School, the funding will support the expansion of the outdoor classroom space used by horticulture classes. The expanded space will give students additional opportunities for hands-on, experiential learning while strengthening student engagement and career readiness.
The North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission was established in 2000 by the North Carolina General Assembly as part of the Master Settlement Agreement with tobacco manufacturing companies. The commission provides grants designed to strengthen North Carolina's agricultural industry and support projects that positively impact the state's agricultural producers.
Pitt County Schools is proud to celebrate the Ayden-Grifton FFA Chapter and the Agriculture Department for this investment in students and agricultural education. Congratulations to Mrs. Honeycutt and the Ayden-Grifton Agriculture Department!
