PCS Temporarily Suspends Canvas Access Following Expanded Cybersecurity Incident

PCS Temporarily Suspends Canvas Access Following Expanded Cybersecurity Incident

Yesterday afternoon users logging into Canvas saw a message from the threat actor who compromised Instructure earlier this week. The message appeared to Canvas users across the nation, including those with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS), and some Public School Units (PSU). This additional incident indicates that Instructure has an ongoing breach from the threat actor, and it is not safe to use the system.

Out of an abundance of caution, Pitt County Schools made the decision to temporarily suspend all access to Canvas while we continue working with the vendor and reviewing recommended security measures. This action is being taken proactively to help protect staff and student accounts while additional information is gathered and the situation continues to be monitored.  This means that staff and students will not be able to access any Instructure platforms including Canvas or MasteryConnect for coursework and materials while it is down.

PCS  will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available. Thank you for your support and partnership as we respond to this situation.
