School Leadership

Pitt County Schools' School Leadership Department's primary focus is supporting schools in achieving higher academic performance. The department partners closely with school administrators to build their leadership capacity, ensuring each school fosters an environment where effective teaching and meaningful student learning can thrive.

Executive Directors and the Director of School Improvement conduct regular school visits to engage in collaborative discussions with school leaders, assess school needs, and strategically direct support services. Additionally, the department plays a critical role in strengthening practices by leveraging data to drive improvement, coaching principals in the implementation of research-based strategies, and monitoring administrative practices to ensure quality, consistency, and effectiveness across all schools.

The Office of Strategic Innovation (OSI) in PCS is also part of the School Leadership Department. OSI provides a bridge between the Department of Human Resources (HR) and the Department of Academic Services (AS). HR and AS are two departments that provide direction and support as students, teachers and school administrators work toward the goal of providing excellent teaching and creating an environment that ensures students master the knowledge and skills for success in a rapidly changing world. Some of the programs and trainings they provide include the KeyBT program, the Teacher Leadership Institute, and trainings for Cognitive Coaching^SM, Adaptive Schools, and Situational Leadership.
