Jenkins Appointed Principal of PCS Early College High School
Pitt County Schools Deputy Superintendent Dr. Steve Lassiter on Tuesday announced the appointment of Leshaun Jenkins as principal of PCS Early College High School, effective July 1, 2024.
Jenkins will have served Edgecombe County Public Schools since 2001 as a teacher, assistant principal and principal at three levels when he assumes the top leadership role for the grades 9-13 school located on the Pitt Community College campus with an enrollment of nearly 300 students. He will immediately succeed interim principal Bill Frazier and replace the school's founding principal Wynn Whittington, who resigned earlier this spring to accept an assistant superintendent position in Jones County.
"We are pleased to welcome Mr. Jenkins to Pitt County Schools and look forward to his leadership in this capacity," Lassiter said. "His successful career track has been intentional to prepare for this particular position and we are confident his vision and innovative approach will enable PCS Early College High School to enjoy remarkable growth on what already is a firm foundation.

Misc ... in addition to designing the global studies curriculum and teaching world history, world geography, civics, economics while in the classroom, Mr. Jenkins served in numerous leadership capacities during 16-year teaching assignment at Tarboro HS, which included a 10-year tenure as chair of the social studies department; in addition to being a three-time THS Teacher of the Year selection, he earned THS and Edgecombe County Public Schools Global Educator of the Year honors and created the THS Leadership Academy; as an administrator, he led professional learning community (PLC) and attendance committee meetings, while facilitating staff professional development as a high school assistant principal; Mr. Jenkins engaged in many PD leadership training opportunities such ASC Empower, Covey's Four Disciplines of Execution & 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, NCDPI (@NCSU), Maxwell, Ron Clark Academy and BB&T; he also served as varsity head coach for the sports of boy's basketball, boy's and girl's soccer and boy's tennis, leading squads to a combined 10 regular season or tournament championships and earning a collective 18 coach of the year honors, including two on the state level; he is active in the community, serving as director for the College Life to Corporate Life (ANCA) after acting as a liaison for the ECU African American Studies Program Community.
