The Bethel School Media Center, under the dedicated leadership of coordinator Mrs. Caty Whitehurst, was recently awarded a $68,918.47 grant from the James J. and Mamie Richardson Perkins Trust.

In addition to providing resources to update the facility's furniture needs, the funding was also used to create a modern, multi-purpose and collaborative 21st-century learning environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and hands-on engagement opportunities for all.

Whitehurst and her media center team, along with support from Principal Mrs. Ashley Bell, carefully selected colors, finishes, and flexible, mobile furniture that helped create a dynamic space for both students and staff. The transformation took place over the 2024 winter break and was ready for utilization when everyone returned in January.

"This transformation represents a significant step forward in providing engaging and versatile learning environments for all," Whitehurst said. "We are excited to see the positive impact this new space will have on our school community!"

The grant, which was written by Whitehurst, is the fourth awarded by the James J. and Mamie Richardson Perkins Trust to a PCS elementary school within the last three years, following Falkland's (May 2022), Ayden's (October 2022) and Wahl-Coates' (March 2023) distinctions, respectively.
