Dr. Lenker Earns Honors

The Northeast Regional Education Service Alliance (RESA) has named Pitt County Schools Superintendent Dr. Ethan Lenker the 2018-2019 North Carolina Regional Superintendent of the Year.  The Northeast RESA consists of 16 school districts, including those in Pitt, Beaufort, Dare, Gates and Martin counties.  Lenker was awarded the honor at a council meeting of the regional superintendents held on June 13, 2018.

The mission of the Northeast RESA is to support and enhance educational services and resources for the member districts.  These include facilitating professional development opportunities and promoting communication between the districts and state agencies, professional organizations, elected officials, and educational leaders.  Dr. Dwayne Stallings, Executive Director of the Northeast RESA, states that “Dr. Lenker is well known by his peers across the state as a leader in innovation and promoting high quality educational experiences for all students.  He is well-respected by all and has served on several statewide committees on education issues.  Dr. Lenker is an advocate for public education and the opportunities it provides the students of the state.”

Lenker has served as the chair of the Northest RESA for 2017-2018, earning the respect of his peers.  "Dr. Ethan Lenker truly has a heart for students”, says Dr. Rob Jackson, Superintendent of Edenton-Chowan Schools and last year’s Northeast RESA Superintendent of the Year. “His passion and zeal for ensuring that children in Pitt County and throughout Northeastern North Carolina have access to high-quality educational opportunities have led to increased support from businesses and the community. He is a great mentor for new superintendents and a source of wise counsel for all superintendents in our region. I am proud to work with Dr. Lenker and know that he will represent our region well."

This is the second year in a row that Lenker has been selected as a regional superintendent of the year, with the selection coming from the Central Carolina RESA in 2017-2018.

“I would like to thank my fellow superintendents, as it is a tremendous honor anytime your colleagues recognize you in a way like this,” Lenker stated.  “As I said last year, recognitions like this are a culmination of the work of great teachers, principals, and staff.  I am very blessed to have the opportunity to work in such a fantastic community.  Thank you to all of the employees of Pitt County Schools, and a very special thank you to the Pitt County Board of Education for their continued support and direction.”

Lenker is now a candidate for the North Carolina Superintendent of the Year, the selection of which will occur later this fall after a series of interviews consisting of the eight regional winners from across the state.  The NC State Superintendent of the Year will be announced at the North Carolina School Boards Association annual conference in Greensboro, NC in November.

Congratulations to Dr. Ethan Lenker on this prestigious honor and for your tremendous leadership of Pitt County Schools!
