School Announcements

Week of December 13-17, 2021

Good evening Wintergreen families, I hope all is well and hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. This is Dr. Briney, Principal of Wintergreen Schools with your Sunday evening announcements.

First and foremost, thank you to all the families who participated in last week's Storytime. I was amazed at the number of students and families we had logged in and all the positive feedback that came afterward. I look forward to doing this again in the near future.

Friendly reminder, that our annual Bookbag Buddy Food Drive is currently taking place here at Wintergreen Schools and will continue up until this Wednesday, December 15th. We are asking students to bring in individual/snack-size, non-perishable food items that we will use to benefit our Wintergreen Schools Bookbag Buddies Program. As a little incentive, the class that brings in the most food items on each grade level will win a popcorn party!!

Our other Service Leadership Project, Operation Santa Claus, runs through this Tuesday, December 14th. Students are invited to bring in one unwrapped toy and place it in the big red box outside of the office. These toys will be given to families in need throughout Pitt County. I do want to thank everyone for their generosity and support with these two Service Leadership Projects.

Parents, as you know, we have five school days left until Winter Break! Please help us this week keep our students focused on their work and all the fun things we have planned by having conversations with your kids and reminding them of their job as a student and that they are very close to a much-needed, well-deserved break. Just five days away...

All throughout this week, all students and staff are invited to participate in Spirit Week.

On Monday, December 13th everyone is invited to get decked out in their hippest holiday attire

Tuesday, December 14th Wintergreen Primary students will participate in Polar Express Day while all Wintergreen Primary and Wintergreen Intermediate students are invited to wear their pajamas to school.

On Wednesday, December 15th students can bundle up in their favorite headwear, a flannel shirt, and/or some holiday socks.
Thursday, December 16th Wintergreen Intermediate students will participate in Grinch Day while all WGP and WGI students are invited to wear their favorite red and green clothing.

Last but not least, on Friday, December 17th students are invited to dress up as their favorite holiday character.

As we wrap up 2021, I want to thank everyone for the kinds words and support over the past six months. I hope that everyone is able to enjoy family time, fellowship with loved ones, and you get the opportunity to get some rest over the next two weeks. I always appreciate the holidays because it reminds me of the importance of family, reminds me the importance of giving and serving others, and of course, gives me time to reflect on all that I am grateful for. I truly hope you all have a great holiday and I look forward to seeing all our families, students, and staff members when school resumes on January 5th.

Week of December 6-10, 2021

Good evening Wintergreen families, I hope all is well and hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. This is Dr. Briney, Principal of Wintergreen Schools with your Sunday evening announcements.

First and foremost, a big thank you to all those families who purchased a poinsettia to support our Music Education program. All proceeds from our fundraiser went directly to our music department so we are looking forward to using those funds wisely to buy more instruments and equipment in order to continue to grow that program.

While we are on the topic of fundraising, I want to bring two Service Leadership Projects to everyone's attention. First, a friendly reminder that our annual Bookbag Buddy Food Drive is currently taking place here at Wintergreen Schools and will continue up until Wednesday, December 15th. If possible, we are asking students to bring in individual/snack-size, non-perishable foods items that we will use to benefit our Wintergreen Schools Bookbag Buddies Program. We kindly ask that you do not purchase or donate anything that would require a child to add hot water. As a little incentive, the class that brings in the most food items on each grade level will win a popcorn party!!

Our other Service Leadership Project taking place at Wintergreen Schools is Operation Santa Claus. As our county grows, the number of underprivileged children grows proportionately. Pitt County Operation Santa Claus has responded in the past by ensuring these children are blessed with gifts and toys on Christmas Day. We are continuing this year to be a Salvation Army Toy collection site.  Students are invited to bring in one unwrapped toy and place it in the big red box outside of the office.  Toy collections will take place through Tuesday, December 14th.

Parents, as we countdown the days until our Winter Break it is important our students come to school ready to work and are following expectations in order to reach our goal of academic excellence. Please help us these next two weeks keep our students focused on their work and goals by having conversations with your kids and reminding them of their job as a student and that they are very close to a much-needed, well-deserved break.

Now for this week's happenings:

On Wednesday, December 8th please join us for Storytime with yours truly as I will be reading to our students a Winter themed book via Zoom. In order to help with the flow of this event, we do have staggered times for different grade levels. All families will be able to log in via Zoom using the link and passcode that will be sent home this week with all students.
The times are as followed:
6:00 PM - Kindergarten and First Grade
6:30 PM - Second Grade and Third Grade
7:00 PM - Fourth Grade and Fifth Grade

Also on Wednesday, December 8th please stop by any Angus Grill location here in Greenville and Winterville for WGP PTA Spirit Day/Night. When there, please let their great staff know you are supporting WGP PTA and a portion of your sales will be donated to the PTA! Please know this is an ALL DAY event so you can make the trip before or after storytime.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week. As always, please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns.

Week of November 22-23, 2021

Good evening Wintergreen families, I hope all is well and hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. This is Dr. Briney, Principal of Wintergreen Schools with your Sunday evening announcements.

As many of you know the music program’s annual poinsettia fundraiser is currently taking place and will end next Monday, November 29th. Students may turn in their money and order forms to their homeroom teachers. Each red poinsettia comes in a 6-inch pot dressed in green foil and costs $10 per plant with bows costing an additional $3. We are supporting a local business this year–All poinsettias are from Plant and See Nursery and are grown right here in Greenville. Parents may pick up the plants Thursday, December 2nd from the bus lot/WGP Gym from 2:45-3:30 or from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

A special shout out to our very own Wintergreen Intermediate Music Teacher, Mrs. Day, for being named and recognized this past Friday as the North Carolina Music Educators Association Music Teacher of the Year. This is a tremendous honor and we are thankful to have Mrs. Day as part of our WGI staff. Congratulations Mrs. Day!

Parents, a slight change to our morning dropoff procedures at Wintergreen Primary. Due to the number of families using the Kiss and Go Lane at WGP, we have began letting students out at 7:20 every morning. Due to this change, left turns into the Primary Entrance from 7:20 am to 8:00 am Monday thru Friday are not permitted. We know this may be an inconvenience, however, we realized this change helped our overall dropoff process tremendously. Again, no left turns into our Primary parking lot will be permitted from 7:20 am until 8:00 am.

Friendly reminder to all Wintergreen families that this week is a shortened week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Students will have school Monday, November 22nd as well as on Tuesday, November 23rd. Thanksgiving Break begins Wednesday, November 24th. With that being said, students will report back to school on Monday, November 29th. Even with a short week, I can assure you our students will be working hard, learning, and having FUN. As a staff, we understand that our students depend on us EVERY.SINGLE.DAY so you have my word we will be giving them 110% of our time and effort.

To end, as we know, Thanksgiving is a time for families and friends to gather together and express gratitude for all that we have been given, the freedoms we enjoy, and the loved ones who enrich our lives. I am thankful to be a part of this amazing school, thankful to work alongside such dedicated staff members, and thankful to spend my days with your amazing children. I hope each and every one of you have the opportunity to relax and fellowship with family and friends this week. I look forward to coming back next Monday, November 29th, and continue to serve our students, staff, and families.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, and again Happy Thanksgiving.
