Viking Drill Teams

  • All forms of Drill & Ceremony are conducted here at D. H. Conley High School Viking Battalion. The purpose of Drill & Ceremony is to build and promote unity within an organization. Unity is a vital element in every successful business or organization, no matter what product is being produced. Cadets on these teams may compete in Regulation Squad without Arms, Regulation Squad with Arms, Fancy Drill, & Regulation Platoon Drill with Arms, and Regulation Platoon Drill without Arms. Cadets develop self confidence, enhance their leadership skills, build espirit de corps, self reliance and many other skills, that will help them in all walks of life. Every cadet will have the opportunity to compete in numerous competitive activities throughout the school year. This is one method in which the cadet can earn ribbons, team tabs, team cords and the necessary merits required for promotion and or advancement in the cadet corp.

    Regulation Squad without Arms is a team of seven to eleven cadets that execute a series a drill movement in line and in sequence. This team competes in numerous competitive event annually, march in community activities and or parades. Cadets are evaluated on their ability to perform these movements within a predetermined area, and in unison.

    Fancy Drill is a group of cadets that have developed a unique drill routine that demonstrates their unity, confidence, originality and team pride. These cadets perform in community activities, school functions and in competitive events.

    Platoon Drill with Arms is a team of eleven or more cadets that execute a series a drill movement with arms in line and in sequence. This team competes in numerous competitive event annually, march in community activities and or parades. Cadets are evaluated on their ability to perform these movements within a predetermined area, and in unison.

     Viking Raider Team

    Raider Team is a team of four to eight cadets normally and this team’s focus is on physical fitness, unity, first aid skills, and team building skills. Cadets are evaluated on their ability to perform these skills, based on time and accuracy. This is one method in which the cadet can earn ribbons, team tab, team cord and the necessary merits required for promotion and or advancement in the cadet corp.

    Viking Rifle Team focus is on firearm safety and to prevent all gun related activities. The rifle team consists of four or more members and competes normally against or more schools. Cadets fire the Daisy 887 air rifle at paper targets from three different firing positions, prone, kneeling and standing. The rifle team is evaluated both on a individual top score of 300 points; and a overall team score. This is one method in which the cadet can earn ribbons, team tab, team cord and the necessary merits required for promotion and or advancement in the cadet corp. (optional)

    Saber Team is a team composed of highly disciplined, motivated, who looks extremely sharp in uniform and demonstrates outstanding military bearing. The Saber Team is the official Honor Unit for the Cadet Corps and School. The Saber Team is used for greeting government officials, such as Congress Members and Senators. Local officials are greeted by the Saber Team and also used during the crowning of the homecoming queen, military ball queen, regional formal inspection, weddings and other high visible activities.
