Wintergreen Primary Office Only
School Closure Letter: April 29, 2020
Dear Wintergreen Eagle and Gator Parents,
We are heartbroken by the announcement last week our students will not be returning this school year. As educators, we entered this field because of children, and not having them walk through the doors each day has been so very difficult for everyone. Our educators are working diligently to support our children through remote learning opportunities and we extend a tremendous THANK YOU for navigating these waters with us. It is not lost on us how this pandemic has impacted our families, our staff, and community. Remote learning and teaching is happening while you are working, raising your children, and making the most of this situation we have found ourselves in. Again, thank you.
We know you have many questions about next steps. We still have many unanswered questions but I have outlined a few topics below. Administrators are having virtual principal meetings every Tuesday and our Central Office is providing guidance to us as they learn more from the Department of Public Instruction, Governor Cooper, the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the General Assembly.
Student Personal Belongings:
When staff was required to work remotely from home, classrooms and student belongings were left secure. Teachers have not been able to return to school or their classrooms. My tentative plan is for teachers to pack up student belongings when they are allowed to return to campus and we will determine a schedule to have parents come to campus to pick up. We will give you more definitive information as soon as we know more.
If your child has medication here at school, please come by to pick it up. We have Intermediate medications at Wintergreen Primary. Our office is open daily from 8:00 to 2:00.
Library Books to return:
If your child has library books, those can be returned to Wintergreen Primary. We have set up two boxes along the curb at WGP Kiss and Go- one for Wintergreen Primary and one for Intermediate. Library books can be placed in the appropriate boxes between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
We will set up a schedule for Chromebooks to be returned after virtual learning and teaching concludes and will share that soon.
For families who purchased Yearbooks, our PTA’s will know more about the arrival of those orders after May 15th. We will follow up as soon as we know more.
Field Day T-Shirts:
Wintergreen Intermediate - We currently have the screen print company working on a new, school spirit design that will be used for t-shirts ordered by current 3rd and 4th-grade students. For our 5th graders, the company is also working on another design. This design will be something like “Later, Gators” and will signify the end of their time at Wintergreen. These shirts will be printed and delivered to the school. We will have designated dates when families can drive through our Kiss and Go lane for quick, pick up. If you would prefer a reimbursement for the t-shirt ($5), please email Mrs. Gillikin (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Thursday, May 7th.
Wintergreen Primary- For families who purchased Field Day shirts, these can be picked up when parents pick up their child’s belongings. Again, we will provide those dates as soon as possible.
Our bookkeepers are working to refund parents for pictures purchased prior to March 16th and will be mailed this week. Online credit and debit refunds have been processed.
Field Trips- Refunds and Donations:
Based on feedback from your child’s current teacher, we are mailing reimbursement checks to those parents who requested refunds for field trips.
Your donations will also help us cover student debts in our school cafeterias. At this time, we have approximately $400 charged for meals at each school. We appreciate families working with us as we refund based on your requests.
Parent Requests for the 2020-2021 School Year:
Each year, we offer parents the opportunity to write a letter describing your child and the teacher qualities you believe would be the best match for your child. This year, we will accept your placement recommendations via Google Form. Please complete the survey by Thursday, June 4, 2020. Access the Student Placement
We are excited to welcome our new Eagles for the 20-21 School Year! We will continue to pre-register students for kindergarten. Directions for virtual pre-enrollment are linked HERE and here, at the PCS website regarding
There is no better time to recognize the work of our teachers than Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4- May 8th! If you would like to mail something to your child’s teacher(s), please use the school addresses and include the teacher(s) name:

5th Graders- We are saddened to know our 5th graders will be moving on to middle school and we will not have the opportunity to recognize them for their accomplishments before they leave us. We are working on a special presentation for them and will share this soon. We love you! We are sorry we will not be able to hug you, tell you that you are loved and that you will be missed.
Kindergarten through 4th Grades- We are anxiously awaiting the time we can all be together again!
