Hornet News

  • Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

This is Hornet News for the week of September 16th!

From Mr. Pollard: I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to say congratulations to our students, their families and our amazing teachers on last years test results. In many grade levels Chicod School led the county in proficiency. I am excited about this year as we fine tune the teaching and learning process for all of our learners.

Mrs. Evans has worked hard with PCS Transportation officials to meet the bus challenges that we have faced this year. A letter went home with riders affected by the changes on Thursday. Please remember that these changes will go into effect Monday (9/16) morning. Please remember that estimated bus stop times are not always going to be exact times. Riders need to be at their stop 10 - 15 minutes prior to their arrival time. Thank you for your patience and your support!

If you pick up or drop off your child, you must follow the correct traffic pattern. Violators may receive a traffic ticket or be banned from our campus. Our traffic flow pattern is designed for everyone's safety. It is also designed to get you on and off campus as efficiently as possible.

    • You can help by making sure your student is prepared to exit your vehicle when dropping them off. You may pull to the side of the parking lot when picking up your child up and buckle them appropriately.

Pitt County Schools has a system-wide “Independence Day” in an effort to support students walking to class by themselves in the morning. We want our students to develop independence and confidence that will serve them well in the classroom. We also want our teachers to make the most of their instructional time, including the morning before school. This preparation time is a very busy time for our teachers. They must monitor students and attend to instructional duties. Although this is a popular time for parents and teachers to interact, we must place the needs of our students and their instruction first.

    • With this in mind, we are declaring our district-wide “Independence Day” for the 2019-2020 school year to be Monday, September 23, 2019. On that date and thereafter, we are requesting that K-8 students walk to class “independently” and that parents schedule meetings with teachers at other times if personal conversations are needed. Start preparing now for Independence Day on Monday, September 24th!

Thank you for supporting our PTA in the Candy Man Fundraiser! All order forms and money are due at school by Friday.

Our Spirit Wear Website will remain open until September 22nd! Click HERE to visit our Spirit Wear Website and order your Hornet gear through September 22nd!

Anyone who has donations of candy or treats or (new or gently used) small toys or fun stuff to send to the SWARM Store, please send to Ms. Stanley's room at any time!  The first store will be set up starting late September.
