Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Meredith Southworth
I am a perpetual student of literature, global issues, technology, and pedagogy.
My name is Meredith Southworth, and I am excited to be working at the best school on earth. I graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education in 2006. Since then, I have had the honor of teaching ninth through twelfth grade English at South Central High School in Winterville, NC as well as my alma mater, Southside High School in Chocowinity, NC. Like most teaching professionals, my love for my subject was kindled by an amazing teacher. In my case, that teacher was Mrs. Connie Lewis of Southside High School. She opened my eyes to the world of thought contained in a single morsel of good literature, and discovering that world became my personal mission. In addition to teaching me to connect to a story, Mrs. Lewis helped to teach me the power of human connection--how interaction with just one person can change the direction of a person’s life. My life-long observations about the power of human connections helped to form the beginnings of my beliefs about teaching, which I have honed over the course of ten years in the profession. My philosophy is that all students crave a positive connection with something beyond themselves, and it is through that connection that learning occurs and a passion for lifelong learning is born. My learning journey is currently continuing at Appalachian State University, where I am pursuing a master’s degree in online learning and professional development.
When I am not teaching, you can find me climbing mountains, scuba diving, fishing, camping, or playing outside with my husband, John, and our sons, Desmond and Alden.
