The Diamond Mustangs traveled to Farmville on Tuesday and picked up the win 10-0.
The Mustangs were led at the plate by Rooke Knittle who was 2 for 2 with 4 RBI's. Drew Lambert came back from a lingering back injury and went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's. And LJ Brown also was 2 for 2. Matthew Tyndall, Gavin Whitley, Harrison Corey, Caleb McLawhorn, Caleb Case, and Wills Lucas all added hits for the Mustangs.Caleb Case and John Rose combined for a one hit shutout. Caleb Case got the start going 3 1/3rd strong innings, allowing no runs, no hits, walking two, and striking out five. John Rose came in to pitch the final inning and 1/3rd. John Rose did not allow any runs, on one hit, no walks, and struck out two.April 26, 2023
The Hope Mustangs baseball team got back on track Wednesday as they traveled to PS Jones and picked up a 13-0 victory.
The Mustangs woke the bats up yesterday collecting ten hits over five frames. The Mustangs were led at the plate by Rooke Knittle who was 2-2 with a single and a double. Drew Lambert, Matthew Tyndall, Wills Lucas, Caleb McLawhorn, Harris Jones, Caleb Case, Landon Scott, and Camden Davis all added hits on the day.It was a staff day on the mound for the Mustangs as four pitchers combined for a one hit shutout. Caleb Case started the game going to two perfect innings facing the minimum, not allowing any walks and striking out two. John Rose came in to pitch the third inning not allowing any runs on any hits, striking out one and walking one. Wills Lucas came in and pitched a perfect fourth inning not allowing a hit or run while striking out one. Sixth grade phenom Camden Davis came in to pitch the final frame allowing no runs on one hit.The Mustangs will be back in action Monday as the Mustangs will recognize their twelve 8th graders in their final home game as a Mustang against North of the River. The Hope Mustangs hosted the Raiders of AG Cox on Monday. The Raiders came in and shut the Mustangs out in a 5-0 loss.
The pitching staff for the Mustangs had trouble finding its footing against the Raiders. Harrison Corey, Aiden Coats, and John Rose all pitched for the Mustangs. They combined to allow 5 runs on 3 hits, 8 BB's, and 4 hit batters.The Mustangs only had three hits in the game. Rooke Knittle, Matthew Tyndall, and Harrison Corey all had singles in the game. The Mustangs just could not get anything going against the AG Cox pitcher.With the loss the Mustangs fell out of contention for the Division 1 Conference Championship. The Mustangs travel to PS Jones on Wednesday.April 19, 2023
The Hope Mustangs traveled to EB Aycock and picked up the conference win by a score of 8-0.
The Mustangs were led at the plate by Rooke Knittle who was 3-4 with 2 doubles, a single, and a walk. Matthew Tyndall, Aiden Coats, Harrison Corey, Cam Gooding, Gavin Whitley, and Landon Scott all added a hit a piece.
Aiden Coats started on the mound pitching three plus innings allowing no runs on one hit, with three walks, and three strikeouts. Harrison Corey came in for relief of Aiden in the fourth to get an inning ending double play. Harrison pitched two innings in relief not allowing a run while striking out two. John Rose came in to pitch the final two frames allowing no runs on two hits with two strikeouts.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Monday against AG Cox.April 17, 2023
The Hope Mustangs defeated the Patriots of Farmville Middle on Monday by a score of 10-0 in six innings.
The Mustangs were led at the plate by Cam Gooding who went 3 for 3 on the day with a single, double, and a triple. Landon Scott was 2-2 with two doubles. Carson Logan went 2-3 with two RBI's. Rooke Knittle, Harrison Corey, Camden Davis, and Gavin Whitley all tallied hits as well.Rooke Knittle started on the mound pitching one inning and striking out three, hitting one batter and walking three. Caleb Case came in to pitch in the second inning, going three strong innings allowing no runs, on one hit, walking one, and striking out seven. John Rose then came in to pitch the final two frames, allowing no runs, no hits, walking one, and striking out five.The Mustangs will travel to EB Aycock on Wednesday.April 12, 2023
On Wednesday the Hope Mustangs traveled to Wellcome Middle School and came away with a 15-0 victory.
The Mustangs were led at the plate by Caleb McLawhorn and Matthew Tyndall. Caleb McLawhorn went 3 for 3 with a single and two doubles with 5 RBI’s. Matthew Tyndall was 2 for 2 with two singles and RBI. John Rose added a Double and an RBI. Aiden Coats was 1 for 1 with a double. Harrison Corey was 1 for 1 with RBI single. And Davis Whitley added a single with an RBI.
Landon Scott started on the mound for the Mustangs pitching two innings allowing no runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one. Caleb McLawhorn came in for relief in the 3rd inning striking all three batters he faced. Gavin Whitley came in to pitch the final frame allowing no runs on one hit and striking out two.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Monday as they will host the Patriots of Farmville Middle. Please come out and support your Mustangs.April 5, 2023
On Wednesday, the Mustangs hosted PS Jones. The Mustangs defeated PS Jones 13-1 in five innings.
The Mustangs were led offensively by Carson Logan and Harrison Corey. Carson Logan was 3 for 3 with 3 singles and 6 runs batted in. Harrison Corey was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and a walk. Rooke Knittle, Aiden Coats, Wills Lucas, Cam Gooding, and Camden Davis all added a hit a piece.
It was a pitch by committee day on Wednesday. Caleb Case got the start going two innings giving up one unearned run, walking one, and striking out 4. John Rose came in to pitch the third inning allowing no runs on one hit, a walk, and two strikeouts. Wills Lucas pitched the 4th inning allowing no runs on one hit, and striking out two. Landon Brown finished the day for the Mustangs pitching the 5th inning allowing no runs, on no hits, and one hit batsmen.
The Mustangs return to action next Wednesday April 12th, when they travel to Wellcome.April 3, 2023
The Hope Mustangs baseball team traveled to AG Cox on Monday and came out on the losing end of an extra inning game in which the Raiders got a walk off single to win the game 2-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning.
The Mustangs were baffled at the plate by the Raiders pitchers as the Mustangs only were able to scatter four hits. Rooke Knittle led the Mustangs going 2 for 4, accounting for half of the Mustangs hits. Matthew Tyndall and Aiden Coats added the other two hits. Cam Gooding was the only Mustang who was able to score as he walked and came in to score on a ball that didn't get far away from the catcher, however Gooding was able to speed in for the lone Mustang run.Hope was led by stellar pitching performances. Aiden Coats started the game going 4 and 1/3rd inning allowing one run on no hits, giving up five walks, but striking out 10 Raider batters. Harrison Corey came on for relief in the 5th inning, pitching 3 innings, allowing one run on one hit, walking one, and striking out five.The Mustangs played a good game but could not catch the break they needed in order to pull out the win.The Mustangs will return home on Wednesday as they will play host to PS Jones.March 28, 2023
The Hope Mustangs baseball team defeated the EB Aycock Jaguars on Wednesday by a score of 11-1.
The Mustangs were led at the plate by Rooke Knittle who went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Brody Brannon (2 RBI’s), Harrison Corey (1 RBI), Aiden Coats, and Landon Scott (1 RBI) all added hits.
Harrison Corey started on the mound for the Mustangs, pitching 2+ innings, allowing one run on no hits, and striking out four. Caleb Case came in the 3rd inning with the bases loaded and no outs, and was able to work out of the jam allowing only one run on a sac fly. Case pitched two innings striking out one batter and not allowing a hit. Caleb McLawhorn came in to pitch the final frame without allowing a run or a hit.
The Mustangs will travel to AG Cox on Monday.March 8, 2023
The Hope Mustangs picked up their first win of the season yesterday with a 10-0 victory over the Cougars of GR Whitfield. The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead scoring nine runs in the first inning. However, the offense went cold over the next three innings, with the Mustangs not scoring their tenth run until the fifth inning.
Leading the way for Mustangs at the plate were Rooke Knittle, Brody Brannon, Gavin Whitley, and Cam Gooding who all collected one hit a piece. Camden Davis also added a Sac Fly RBI to end the game.The story on the day however, came from the starting pitcher for the Mustangs, Aiden Coats. Aiden Coats was phenomenal on the mound throwing a complete game No-Hitter. Aiden's dominant performance was highlighted by 10 strikeouts, 0 runs allowed, while only surrendering two base runners off two walks in the 3rd inning. Aiden was able to keep the bases clear of Cougars every inning, with the exception of the third. The Mustang middle infield helped Aiden as the combination of Harrison Corey and Landon Scott recorded the other five outs of the game.The Diamond Mustangs are off next week for Spring Break and then are on the road for two games the following week at Woodington and Greene County. The Mustangs do not return home to play until March 29th vs EB Aycock. Please come out and support your Mustang baseball team.
