N.C. CTE Foundation Names PCS Graduate as Scholarship Winner

Sarah Blythe Bacon, a recent graduate of J.H. Rose High School, has been named the recipient of the 2022 John Kirkman Honorary CTE Scholarship according to an announcement by the North Carolina CTE (Career & Technical Education) Foundation.

Ms. Bacon was selected based on her academic achievement as well as her extensive involvement in Career and Technical Education courses and experiences in the CTE Student Organizations of HOSA, FBLA, and NTHS. She plans to pursue a degree in preprofessional health studies with a double major in business. Her goal is to enter medical school and become a physician. 

Over 240 students in North Carolina were considered for this scholarship worth $1,500.

Ms. Bacon is the second recipient of this scholarship which has been established as an annual award by the N.C. CTE Foundation to honor the service of Mr. John Kirkman. Mr. Kirkman served the North Carolina Career & Technical Education for over 30 years. Throughout his tenure in CTE, Mr. Kirkman was an agriculture teacher at the middle and high school levels, the CTE Director for Lee County Schools, a CTE Regional Coordinator and Interim State CTE Director. His dedication and love for CTE led to many contributions that have positively impacted thousands of students, teachers and administrators across the state.
