Jones Promoted to PCS Director of Human Resources
Kishlyn Jones has been promoted to director of human resources for Pitt County Schools according to an announcement from PCS Assistant Superintendent/Chief of Human Resources Dr. Tara Patterson on Tuesday.
Jones, who has served the district since 2012 in the role of employee relations coordinator, will assume her new duties effective immediately. She succeeds Glen Buck, who retired February 28, 2025.
Her commitment to integrity, workplace safety and community partnerships has been recognized throughout her tenure with PCS and will provide a proven record of leadership and a strong foundation in her new responsibilities.
In addition to managing posting, hiring and onboarding processes, Jones' experience also includes evaluations, conflict resolution, supporting employee development, coordinating district-wide calendars and oversight of major departmental events. Those duties, which have given her a comprehensive understanding of the school system's HR needs and challenges, also have been instrumental in fostering a positive work and staff support environment.
Patterson expressed confidence in Jones’ acumen, stating that "Ms. Jones is an asset to the school system and is knowledgeable about human resources, and I look forward to her leadership in this new role."
Prior to accepting her first position with PCS, Jones first served as an English teacher at James B. Hunt Jr. High School in Wilson from 2007 to 2010. She then was appointed as an adjunct college transfer instructor at Wilson Community College and served in that capacity until joining the Pitt County Schools' staff two years later.
Jones earned a bachelor's degree in English Language & Literature from Morris Brown (Ga.) College in 2001 and was part of the NC TEACH Program at NC State University where she picked up English 9-12 Certification and Licensure in 2008. Jones later added a master's degree in school administration from Gardner-Webb University in 2021.
