Middle School CTE Courses
STEM: Students in some Pitt County middle schools are benefiting from a new way of learning and gaining valuable skills along the way with the help of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) labs. The labs are equipped with 12 workstations featuring computers and supplies for students to participate in innovative, hands-on activities with a STEM focus. Students work with a partner to complete the STEM modules which were selected by local business and industry leaders.
Career and College Readiness: Another new way of learning prepares students for CTE pathways offered in the high schools in Pitt County by offering module-based, interactive and hands-on activites in multiple careers. Career preparation includes STEM, Health Sciences, Human Services, and Building Technology. Individual modules vary based on community needs and high school course offerings.
Business: Multiple courses are offered to get students engaged and learning computer skills at the middle school level. Courses include Introduction to Office Procedures, Computer Discoveries, and Computer Skills and Education. Students learn how to use Microsoft Office programs and Google Suite programs and other software and internet-based programs.
Career Development: Middle School Career Development Coordinators (CDCs) offer career and character development at multiple schools in the county throughout the year. These courses are designed to offer career preparation and coordinate with the high school CTE programs to introduce students early to the opportunities available to them.
