School Social Workers
School Social Workers have multiple school assignments serving all grade levels. Social workers serve as a liaison between home, school and community, with a primary focus on encouraging parental input and involvement, regular school attendance and removing barriers to achievement. Assistance is provided through assessment of the impact of a student's total environment on the educational setting by identifying and addressing any existing concerns. Direct services are provided to students and families in the school and home that include individual, group and family counseling, advocacy and community resource information and referral. Consultation with staff, parents and community is provided to address students' needs, interpret school board policies and procedures, and support family and child welfare laws.
