• 🍽️ Pitt County Schools Meal Charge Policy (Policy 6220)

    • Students in Pre‑K through 12th grade who don’t have payment on hand may charge up to 7 meals each for breakfast and lunch (i.e. 7 breakfasts and 7 lunches)

    • Ala‑carte items—like extra snacks or drinks—cannot be charged under any circumstances

    • Efforts are made to protect student dignity and confidentiality in the lunch line. Cafeteria staff send reminders about negative balances to both parents and principals during the school year

    • If unpaid balances accumulate and the student is not eligible for free or reduced-price meals, the principal may be notified. This may lead to further actions, including potential reporting to social services or legal steps if neglect is suspected

    • Unpaid balances will carry over into the next school year, and federal nutrition funds may not be used to cover them. Schools aim to collect debts before the school year ends

    📝 Additional Details
