Center for Safer Schools Videos
All North Carolina Public Schools are mandated by state law (Session Law 2023-128) to show videos showing at least "likely warning signs indicating that a child may be a victim of abuse or neglect, including age-appropriate information on sexual abuse" to students in grades 6-12. These videos, which were created by the North Carolina Center for Safer Schools, must be shown no more than five days after the first day of the school year.
If you are the parent of a student in middle school or high school, you should have received an email from the administrator of your child's school regarding these videos and the school's plan for showing those videos to its students.
Middle School Parent Information
Because education on these topics is not part of the health curriculum for students in sixth grade, parents of current sixth grade students must opt their child in to viewing the video for middle school students. Parents of current seventh and eighth grade students have the right to opt their children out of viewing the video. Instructions on how to opt your child into or out of viewing the video should have been provided by your child's principal in an email sent August 15. The video for middle school students can be viewed below.
