    Core Mission

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) support students in developing and applying their communication skills to succeed in the educational setting. They provide individualized evaluations and goals tailored to each student's needs.

    Overview

    • Pitt County Schools currently have 34 SLPs serving students Pre-K–12+.
    • SLPs are case managers and related service providers who advocate for students, support teachers, and participate on district teams (MTSS, Autism Support, Unique Mealtime, Assistive Technology).
    • SLPs assist with mass and MTSS hearing screenings and provide screening support when referrals are made.

    Key Areas Addressed

    • Speech sounds (articulation/phonology)
    • Language comprehension and expressive language
    • Stuttering (fluency)
    • Social communication and pragmatic language
    • Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)

    Why This Matters?

Effective communication skills are fundamental to classroom learning, social participation, and long-term success. SLPs help remove communication barriers, in order for students to fully engage in school and in their future opportunities.
