    Description of Event: The Pitt 6ix School Alumni United Tailgate is a free, community-focused event designed to celebrate and support graduating seniors from Pitt County Schools. Families, friends, alumni, and community members are invited to come together in a show of school spirit and unity.

    Volunteer Duties:
    Volunteers will play a crucial role in ensuring the event runs smoothly. Responsibilities include:

    Greet and sign in participants at the entrance.

    Distributing wristbands to attendees

    Accurately tracking participation numbers for each high school.

    Ensuring the counting process remains honest and fair

    Additional Information:
    The two high schools with the highest turnout will each receive a scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior. This is a fun and meaningful opportunity to give back to the community while helping recognize and reward student achievement.

    Description of Event: Preparing food & clothes pantry for the public (we are open to the public on Thursdays). Hanging clothes, displaying shoes and household items including furniture & appliances (no heavy lifting required), receiving donations and sorting, helping distribute food, and various pantry responsibilities. Closely monitored and friendly atmosphere. Very rewarding!

    Volunteering at Cypress Glen Retirement Community

     

    We welcome high school students to volunteer with us here at Cypress Glen. We require all volunteers to attend an orientation/tour before beginning their service with us. If a student is under the age of 16, a parent or guardian must attend orientation with them. The parent or guardian will not be required to volunteer with their student. Orientation lasts about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. Once a student completes orientation, they can sign up to volunteer.
     
    Our typical volunteer hours are Monday through Friday, 8:45 am-11:30 am and 1:45 pm-4:30 pm. We have a Life Enrichment staff member here on most Saturdays; therefore, Saturdays could also be a possibility for volunteering. We welcome volunteers during the summer, when most high school students can better fit it into their schedules. We realize school comes first!
     
    When volunteering, our students work with a Life Enrichment staff member (usually a certified Recreational Therapist). They will usually work with our Assisted Living, Skilled Care, and Memory Care residents. Our Life Enrichment department is in charge of facilitating numerous activities with our residents. Some of our activities include bingo, worship, animal-assisted therapy, cognitive games such as playing cards and board games, crafts, music, and themed socials.

    Description of Event: Our food distribution is every Friday from 1:00 to 6:00 pm. We need volunteers on Fridays to assist with preparing and distributing the food. From 8 to 12:30, volunteers sort, organize, and stock food in preparation for distribution. From 12 to 6:30, volunteers work directly with clients as they "shop" for food and restock as needed.

    MacGregor Downs Volunteer Opportunity

    Volunteer Activity:  MacGregor Downs Health Center is looking for energetic and disciplined HSA Volunteers who will work directly with residents in various activities throughout the center. (Note:  MacGregor Downs Health volunteer hours qualify as HSA medical volunteer hours)

    To become a volunteer, Contact Terry Edwards, Activities/Volunteer Coordinator, at 252-758-4121 to schedule a seat for the upcoming Thursday orientation session. Parent/ guardian attendance (1 parent or guardian) is required at the orientation session, and only students who schedule an orientation seat for themselves and a parent will be allowed at the weekly orientation session!
